Job Description

Wage: $14.50

1. Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is often preferred, but not always required.

  • Experience: Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is often preferred but not necessary for entry-level positions.

2. Skills and Abilities:

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to thoroughly clean and maintain areas, spotting areas that need extra care.

  • Physical Stamina and Strength: Janitors often work on their feet for long periods, lifting heavy items, and performing physically demanding tasks (such as mopping floors, moving furniture, etc.).

  • Time Management: Ability to complete tasks within a specific timeframe, particularly in busy commercial settings.

  • Knowledge of Cleaning Techniques and Products: Familiarity with cleaning products, equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, vacuums), and methods (e.g., sweeping, mopping, dusting).

  • Ability to Follow Safety Procedures: Understanding of how to safely handle cleaning chemicals and use equipment.

  • Good Communication Skills: Able to communicate clearly with supervisors or team members, especially when issues arise or tasks need clarification.

 

3. Work Environment Adaptability:

  • Ability to work in various environments like offices, schools, hospitals, or industrial buildings.

  • Adaptability to work during different shifts (e.g., evening or night shifts) to minimize disruption to the workday in commercial settings.

  • Willingness to work in different weather conditions or in environments that require specific cleaning tasks (e.g., sanitation in medical facilities).

4. Dependability and Integrity:

  • Being reliable in terms of showing up for shifts on time and ensuring high-quality work.

  • Trustworthiness, as janitors often work in spaces where confidential information or valuable equipment is present.

5. Additional Qualities:

  • Flexibility: Ability to handle a variety of cleaning tasks and environments.

  • Organizational Skills: Being able to manage cleaning supplies, order necessary products, and maintain inventory.
